Using the music of The Grateful Dead as its foundation, the project invites each musician to bring their own style, influences, and energy, resulting in performances that are both familiar and entirely new. Since its start in 2021, the Dead Days concert series has delivered inspired renditions of the Dead’s most iconic albums, legendary shows, and themed performances highlighting specific eras and artists. The ongoing endeavor celebrates collaboration, improvisation, and the timeless spirit of The Grateful Dead, bringing together musicians from diverse genres to co-create something truly alive and evolving. Chris Castino Chris began his musical journey at just 19, joining the Minnesota-based jam band The Big Wu. By 1998, the band had become a national touring act, sparking nearly a decade of musical adventures and wild times on the road. As The Big Wu’s primary songwriter, Chris penned many of the group’s most beloved songs—tunes that continue to resonate with fans to this day. Beyond The Big Wu, Chris has built a rich solo career spanning multiple genres and has collaborated and performed with countless musical peers and stars. A true North Star of the Minnesota music scene, Chris continues to inspire with his creativity and passion. JT Bates Growing up in a musical family gave IT an early start into sound and rhythmic exploration. He set on the path to becoming a working musician while playing in his father’s big band as a teen. Over the years he remained steeped in the improvised music scene, both as a performer and presenter. In 2015 he produced and released his first solo album, “Open Relationships” (Totally Gross National Product) and in 2021 “Not Other Stuff”. Since then he has co-produced with Pieta Brown, David Huckfelt, St. Anthony Mann, and Michael Rossetto As a session drummer JT has appeared on Grammy record of the year “Folklore” (Taylor Swift) as well as the follow up “Evermore”. Grammy nominated “s/t”(Bonny Light Horseman) as well as critically acclaimed records by Bon Iver, Big Red Machine, Cassandra Jenkins, The National, Maya Hawke, Ed Sheeran, and many others. Joe Dunn Joe Dunn is a Minneapolis-based guitarist, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his soulful voice, expressive guitar work, and genre-blending style. As the former frontman of the popular jam band Frogleg, Joe has toured nationally, performing on stages across the country and sharing his distinctive sound with audiences everywhere. For over a decade, he has been a staple of the Twin Cities music scene and beyond, bringing authenticity, groove, and heart to every musical collaboration he joins. Elizabeth Ghandour Twin Cities musician, singer-songwriter and leader of the band ELOUR, a femme rock band. Her main instrument is her voice. She trained classically studying with various teachers around the Twin Cities and New York. These days her primary focus is writing songs and playing out in the local scene. Robert Hubanks A California native, Robert found his musical inspiration in the Bay Area during his college years, where he attended countless Grateful Dead shows and played in a variety of original and cover bands throughout the early ’90s. Since moving to Minnesota in 1997, he has continued to explore his passion for music—holding down the low end on bass and contributing on other instruments across a range of ensembles, including China Rider, Ragged but Right, Mossonello, and more. Ever in search of the perfect groove, Robert remains dedicated to the collective spirit of making music. Arthur Hoffman Since moving to the Twin Cities in 2013, Arthur has become an active and evolving part of the local music community. A multi-instrumentalist fluent on bass, guitar, mandolin, keyboards, and more, “Art” has formed and joined numerous bands across the metro area. Often found in the vibrant cover and tribute scene, he has performed in projects honoring Taylor Swift, Phish, Jerry Garcia Band, *Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, and a variety of themed and cabaret-style concerts. Recently, Arthur joined the acclaimed Mae Simpson Band on keyboards, where he’s channeling his experience and enthusiasm into creating original music.
