The first show of Rachel Ries' fall residency features a Kith + Kin Ensemble and her favorite arrangements, culled from the past 9 years of creating for the chorus.

I'm wired for harmony. As long as I can remember, it's not the melody my brain is interested in but the web of harmonic potential - often unsung - that lives in each moment of a song. From my earliest years spent singing all the parts in the pews of my Mennonite country church, to creating the tapestry of Her Crooked Heart's live tour sound, to obsessively arranging pop/folk/rock/whatever for Kith + Kin Chorus. It's just my favorite.

So join me and a small ensemble of singers from Kith + Kin Chorus, the community choir I founded 9 years ago, as we kick off this Icehouse fall residency with a set of my favorite arrangements I've written plus a few other harmony-heavy songs that feel like part of my (harmonic) origin story.

Rachel Ries is the voice behind Her Crooked Heart, the choral arranging mastermind behind Kith + Kin Chorus and the builder of a terribly charming tiny home on wheels. She's released many records and toured around the world but mostly she enjoys being an auntie, thinking in 8-part harmony, solving construction conundrums, writing songs for patrons and honing her Portuguese Egg Tart baking skills.
