Trevor May began studying flamenco in Spain in 1997, specializing in accompaniment for cante and baile. He has since performed with flamenco artists both locally and internationally. In recent years, he has focused on cajón performance with palmas and jaleo, maintaining a deep connection to flamenco’s full rhythmic and cultural tradition. Raquel de Bosque recently relocated to Minneapolis from the East Coast, where she performed extensively throughout the Tri-State area (NY–NJ–CT), including work with her mentor Melinda Marquez and as a member of the Xianix Barrera Flamenco Dance Company. She was selected for the Jacob’s Pillow Flamenco and Spanish Dance Program, studying with Carmela Greco and Carmen Ledesma, and was part of the inaugural cohort of Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana’s Artist Development Program. With a foundation in tap, ballet, and music, Raquel approaches flamenco as a “visual musician,” blending precision, rhythm, and expressive movement. Flamenco Experimental is a BIPOC- and Queer-led, inclusive collective of dancers and musicians redefining flamenco for contemporary audiences in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area. Rooted in the powerful traditions of Spanish flamenco, the ensemble fuses ancestral form with bold modern influences—including avant-garde and post-modern theater, electronic dance music, and Western and Latin musical hybrids—creating a fresh, boundary-pushing performance experience. https://flamencox.com/ Mara de los Reyes, a Minneapolis-based flamenco dancer, singer, and visual artist, is the founder of Flamenco X and a leading force in cross-disciplinary flamenco performance. Trained with Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company and the Jess Muñoz Company, a graduate of the University of New Mexico Department of Theatre and Dance, and a regular student at Amor de Dios in Madrid, she bridges traditional flamenco with contemporary theatrical form. Through Flamenco X, Mara produces performances and educational initiatives that expand access to flamenco while honoring its lineage and cultural roots. She is joined by José Moreno, an internationally recognized Spanish flamenco dancer celebrated for his powerful footwork, commanding stage presence, and deep connection to traditional flamenco. Having performed at major festivals and prestigious tablaos throughout Spain, Europe, and the United States, Moreno has collaborated with some of the world’s most respected flamenco musicians and dancers. His work honors flamenco’s heritage while delivering electrifying contemporary impact. Completing the ensemble is Joaquín Gallegos, an award-winning flamenco guitarist born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who has made Andalucía his artistic home. Trained by legendary maestros including Chuscales, Manolo Sanlúcar, El Viejín, Emilio Maya, and Antón Jiménez, Gallegos has lived and performed extensively in Granada’s Sacromonte and toured with leading companies such as Flamenco Vivo and EntreFlamenco. Known for his technical virtuosity, deep rhythmic sensibility, and innovative compositions, he is widely regarded as one of the foremost flamenco guitarists in the United States.
