Rootstock Music Festival is a celebration of Black artists, musicians, and instrumentalists from/based in Minnesota. The word “Rootstock” is defined as part of a plant, from which new growth can be produced. This event honors our roots, and showcases how we’ve watered those seeds, flourishing into the vast talents that we have to offer with different styles, genres, and sounds.

Expect to hear music from across the diaspora including R&B, Soul, Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, Funk, Afrobeats, and Reggae.

Many times artists in general, but Black artists specifically, are placed into a box of preconceived notions. Rootstock is a place where we can be our authentic selves, showing the numerous ways in which we use art to free ourselves.
