Akie returns to the Icehouse stage to start the night off with his soulful keyboards, vocals and incredible original songs. Then Yazmin & Beat Zero with the Havana Quartet will serve up a rich mix of original Cuban jazz, funk, and folk rock, brought to life through lush string textures and vibrant Latin grooves. In this intimate setting, every note and rhythm will draw you in — from soulful melodies to irresistible dance beats. Come early, grab a drink, and get ready for a night where Cuba meets Minneapolis meets Brooklyn in pure musical magic! Akie is a Brooklyn native raised in a musical household full of jazz and politics fueled by his former- activist mom and dad. He began singing in church, moved it to school for a while, enroute becoming somewhat of a musical chameleon. His raucous, guttural and soulful vocals are a delectable fusion of Donny Hathaway and Tom Waits. When he's not touring the world with Lake Street Dive, he can be found hiding in coffee shops, or, in this rare case, performing his very own songs on a local Minneapolis stage! Don't miss your chance to see this exceptional talent live in person. (www.akiebermissmusic.com) A powerful singer-songwriter and pianist, Yazmin (www.yazminmusic.com) weaves heartfelt lyrics with Cuban-influenced sounds, shaped by years of study in Havana and deep musical roots from childhood. Her performances are emotionally rich—moving effortlessly from tender ballads to bold, percussive piano lines. Along with her bandmates, Grammy-nominated Álvaro Benavides from New York City on bass and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Gillespie from Minneapolis, MN on drums, she creates a riveting new fusion of Latin-jazz, Funk and Folk/Rock. Originally from Northern Wisconsin, Yazmin grew up surrounded by music as both her parents were professional musicians. At the tender age of 13 she encountered Cuban music for the first time and her life was changed, leading her to a lifelong, rich, heartfelt connection with this country and its culture. In 2023 Yazmin & Beat Zero joined forces with the Havana Quartet (www.havanaquartet.com), made up of Hansel Perez Carrero, Ana Caridad Frómeta, Amaya Fuentes Sarria, and Denise Hernandez Raberio. Founded in 2017, the Havana Quartet has established itself as a leading ensemble in both classical and contemporary music, proudly representing the richness and diversity of Cuban culture. After relocating to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area in 2023, they continued refining their craft under the guidance of Tom Rosenberg and J.Freivogel, quickly becoming an integral part of Minnesota’s dynamic cultural scene. Stay tuned for Yazmin & Beat Zero's new album featuring the Havana Quartet to be released in 2026. In the meantime, grab your tickets for this show!
