Formed in the flourishing underground of West Philadelphia in the latter half of the 2010s, Hour has fluctuated in size and scope around Michael Cormier-O’Leary’s (founder of Dear Life Records, drummer of Friendship, 2nd Grade) clear yet open-ended harmonic framework and ambitious ear. Hour’s music cuts a broad pathway, and remains hard to classify or compare. Perhaps most at home beside work from Bill Frisell, Eiko Ishibashi, ECM Records, or the Louisville experimental chamber group Rachel’s, this ensemble shows us life on the boundary of composition and improvisation. After releasing full length LP 'Ease the Work' in April of 2024 and two additional singles 'Saturday After Payday/Absence is a Heady Spice' in November, Hour has announced 'Subminiature,' their first live album, slated to be released on Valentine's Day 2025 via Cormier-O'Leary's own Dear Life Records. The group has made appearances at Hopscotch Music Festival, Waking Windows, SXSW, and has supported comedian Joe Pera, Thor Harris, Wendy Eisenberg, Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn, Kath Bloom, Loren Connors, Sam Amidon, Jeffrey Lewis and many more.
